Jason Simmons joined Purdue Football in March 2024 after spending the past season at Miami (OH), his alma mater.
In his lone season coaching the RedHawks, Simmons helped produce Miami's first 1,000-yard rusher since 2005, and saw Miami combine to rush for 2,213 yards in 2023. Miami had not rushed for over 2,000 yards as a team since 2003. Rashad Amos would earn All-MAC honors under Simmons' guidance.
Simmons came to Miami after serving as the head coach for Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis, Indiana, from 2018-22. While with the Giants, he helped six players earn scholarships to Division I institutions and his teams advanced to the Final Four from 2019-2021.
Simmons mentored four players that eventually played in the NFL during his 23 seasons of coaching high school football in Indiana. Prior to Ben Davis, Simmons was the head coach for Noblesville High School from 2016-18. Before being promoted to head coach, he was Noblesville’s offensive coordinator from 2013-15 and also helped as a position coach for tight ends, quarterbacks and the offensive line during his time in Noblesville, Indiana. He also coached at Hamilton Heights (1999-2005; 2009-11) and Ben Davis (2006-08).
Simmons was an assistant coach in the 2020 adidas All-American Bowl.
Simmons earned his undergraduate degree from Miami in 1999 and added a master’s degree from Ball State in 2006. Simmons and his wife Sara have four kids: Brady, Megan, Ashley, and Connor.
