Over the years, Dr. Porter has taken every opportunity to learn about foot and ankle injuries and to share what he learns through publications and presentations.
After his undergraduate studies, he continued on to Ball State University, earning a doctorate in human bioenergetics (exercise and muscle performance physiology). Dr. Porter's interest in orthopedics took him on to medical school at Indiana university School of Medicine, after which he interned at Methodist Hospital of Indiana and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Wright State University in Dayton.
He continued to gain experience in additional care settings, undertaking a three-month foot and ankle specialty rotation under Dr. James Amis, MD, in Cincinnati and a 12-month foot and ankle fellowship at the Foundation for Orthopedic, Athletic and Reconstructive Research in Houston with Dr. Donald Baxter and Dr. Tom Clanton.
Active in the presentation and publication of research regarding sports-related foot and ankle injuries, Dr. Porter serves as a peer reviewer for national and international medical journals.
Dr. Porter has also been recognized as a physician of the year by the Indiana Athletic Trainers Association, recognized as a leading specialist as it pertains to foot and ankle sports injuries and conditions in Street & Smith's Sports Business Daily Journal, and was a recipient of the ISMA Commission of Sports Medicine Team Physician Award. He is also a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery, American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society, and the National Football League Physicians Society.
Dr. Porter builds his own strength and agility by exercising and playing golf. He's also actively involved in the Indianapolis community and local charities. A native of Madisonville, Kentucky, he and his wife Dr. Theresa M. Porter are the proud parents of two daughters.
