Prior to joining the Boilermaker staff, Martinez served as a volunteer assistant coach at Cal State-San Bernardino during the 2003-04 academic year. Among Martinez[apos] responsibilities at CSSB was working with the pitchers and outfielders.
In one year at CS-San Bernardino, Martinez helped the Coyotes to a 30-26-1 record. The pitching staff recorded eight complete games, two shutouts and 10 saves.
Martinez began his coaching career as the pitching coach at Redlands East Valley High School in Redlands, Calif.
Martinez[apos] collegiate playing experience began at Riverside Community College in Riverside, Calif.
Two seasons at RCC led to Martinez joining the baseball team at Nevada-Las Vegas, but a shoulder injury cut the left-handed pitcher[apos]s career short.
Martinez earned an associate degree from RCC in 1997 and completed his bachelor[apos]s degree in kinesiology at CSU-San Bernardino in 2004.
Martinez is single and resides in West Lafayette.
