Brian Murer

Brian Murer
Coach Murer comes to Purdue from the University of Texas where he has spent the past two seasons as a volunteer coach with the Longhorns, while continuing his training in the hammer and weight throws. He was also the restricted earnings coach at Southern Methodist from 1995-97.

As a student athlete at SMU, Murer was coached by legendary throws expert Dave Wollman. With the assistance of Wollman Murer became a six time All-American for the Mustangs and finished runner up in 35-pound weight throw twice at the NCAA Indoor Championships.

Murer will work primarily with the throwers at Purdue. Murer has over twelve years of experience in the throwing events including holding the former national record in the 35-pound weight throw, an alternate spot on the 1996 U.S. Olympic Team in the hammer throw as well as his appearences at the NCAA Championships.

In 1996 he coached SMU?s Windy Dean to All-America status in the hammer throw.

A native of Danville, Ind., Murer was an All-State discus for Danville High School.

He and his wife, Jenni, reside in West Lafayette, Ind., with their new baby boy, Jack.
