Boilermakers On The Radio

Purdue Football's radio broadcasts are carried statewide and beyond on the Purdue Global Radio Network, which is managed by Learfield and Purdue Sports Properties - 25 radio stations in total. WAZY (96.5 FM) in Lafayette is the flagship station. Games also can be heard on this page, on the Purdue Sports mobile app and on Sirius XM Radio.

For home games at Ross-Ade Stadium, the broadcast team calls the action from the John R. DeCamp Radio Booth, named after the longtime voice of the Boilermakers. The pregame show begins one hour prior to kickoff.

2026 RADIO NETWORK AFFILIATES

Tim Newton is in his 17th season as play-by-play announcer and also serves as host of the “Purdue Weekly Show.” Newton previously filled the role of pregame, halftime and postgame host, as well as producer, from 1995 to 2009. In addition to his football duties, Newton will embark on his 34th season as play-by-play voice of the Purdue women's basketball team with the 2019-20 campaign. A 1981 Purdue graduate, Newton is the director of external relations and communications for the Krannert School of Management. He previously worked for the Purdue News Service and the Purdue Alumni Association, where he was editor of the “Purdue Alumnus” from 1992 to 1999. He served as sports director at WASK radio in Lafayette from 1982 to 1986. Tim and his wife, Susan, have two children, Emily and Aaron.

Mark Herrmann is in his third season as analyst, while also serving the John Purdue Club as the director of leadership and alumni engagement. joined the John Purdue Club staff in April of 2020 as the director of leadership and alumni engagement. He is a 1981 graduate of Krannert School of Management with a bachelor's degree in business management. While at Purdue, he was a unanimous first team All-American and the Big Ten Most Valuable Player in 1980 and is one of only three Boilermaker quarterbacks to have started three or more consecutive bowl games. He is the only one to have won three, earning MVP honors in the 1978 Peach, 1979 Bluebonnet and 1980 Liberty bowls. He became the first quarterback in NCAA history to throw for 8,000 yards in a career and would finish as the first quarterback to throw for 9,000 yards. Herrmann played 11 seasons in the NFL and was inducted into the Purdue Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame in 1997 and the College Football Hall of Fame in 2010. Following his NFL career, he served as a radio color commentator for the Colts for ten years. A native of Cincinnati who grew up in Carmel, Indiana, Herrmann now makes his home in Indianapolis with his wife Susie and three children.

Rob Blackman is in his 16th season as pregame/halftime/postgame anchor as well as producer following three seasons as sideline reporter and three seasons as co-host of “Boilermaker Sports Wrap.” During the men’s basketball season, Blackman serves as the play-by-play voice of the Boilers. He is also co-host In 2025, Blackman was recognized by both the National Sports Media Association and the Indiana Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association as the Indiana Sportscaster of the Year. In addition, Blackman can be seen on the Indiana High School Athletic Association television network covering the football, basketball, softball and baseball state finals and serves as a pit reporter for the IndyCar Radio Network. He is a 1993 graduate of the University of Evansville, where he earned his degree in telecommunications and was a four-year letterwinner as a wide receiver on the football team. Rob and his wife, Stephanie, have two children, Evan and Lily.

Kelly Kitchel is in his 17th season as sideline reporter. He was an offensive guard for Purdue from 1998 to 2002 and a member of five bowl teams: 1998 Alamo, 2000 Outback, 2001 Rose, 2001 Sun and 2002 Sun. Kitchel majored in organizational leadership and supervision. He works as a risk manager/commercial insurance agent for Henriott Group, primarily insuring public schools, contractors and farms. Kitchel has been a varsity assistant football coach at West Lafayette High School since 2012 after previous stints at Lafayette Jefferson High School (2003-05 and 2007-09) and Wabash College (2006). He also serves as president of the National Football Foundation Joe Tiller Chapter of Northwest Indiana. Kelly and his wife, Brooke, have four children: twins Cooper and Carson, Cade and Kerrigan. Kyle Charters is the longtime lead voice of Purdue Baseball, calling games since the 2005 season. He's the Big Ten's longest tenured baseball announcer. Charters previously covered Purdue Athletics -- specifically football and women's basketball -- for Gold & Black Illustrated and the Purdue Exponent. Rob Blackman, Brian Jennings and Ben Turner are among the other regular contributors to the audio coverage of the Boilermakers. Blackman has called games since 2008.
