So far this has been a very exciting tournament experience. The Purdue women's basketball team received a No. 6 seed for the NCAA's and were matched up against No. 11 seed UNC-Charlotte in the first-round in Chattanooga, Tennessee. We started our adventure Thursday afternoon when we departed from West Lafayette, Ind., on a charter flight out of our campus airport.
When we first got to Chattanooga we ate at a classic rib restaurant called Sticky Fingers. After having fun and eating a delicious meal it was time to focus on the 49er's. We watched a couple of their past games and talked about our game plan for Saturday. Friday's itinerary consisted of a team practice for only an hour, media and a dinner at a nice restaurant. After eating a great dinner we had to get a good night sleep in order to be ready for our first NCAA tournament game.
Before we knew it, it was game time and after watching UNC and UCF play were ready to come out and play. A win would give us another opportunity to face UNC, who had beaten us every time the past three years. Two of those losses were season-ending ones in the NCAA's.
On Saturday, we didn't start out our best, going basket to basket with Charlotte for most of the half. But we were able to step up our game to start the second half and came out with a 65-52 win.
Now it was time for us to focus on UNC. After our win we ate dinner and watched our men team play in their second-round game, which they won in a very close game against Washington. Now that our men team has made it to the Sweet 16, we feel as though it is now our turn to make it. Sunday was a very easy going and entertaining day for our team. Since we had a later practice we decided to go to Rock City/Lookout Mountain, which was a very exciting and beautiful place to visit. After having fun watching some of our staff and players rock climb and take crazy pictures it was time for practice.
We had an hour and half on the court to practice our game plan against the Tar Heels. After a great focused and intense practice we went to dinner at the classy Porter's steak restaurant for an appetizing meal. Before it was time to go to bed we had a team meeting to watch film and discuss what we need to do to get a win on Monday. So far this has been a very fun and exciting trip and we only hope to continue as far as we can in the NCAA Tournament.
