It's been pretty exciting such my last blog. We've traveled to Hawaii and tested ourselves against some of the nation's best teams. Everyone in West Lafayette, Ind., has had basketball fever this past month. Both the men's and women's programs have high expectations for this season.
Our team started the season well by winning our first three homes games. Those games were an opportunity for people to get back into the swing of things. Personally, those were games for me to get back into shape. Because of my ACL injury, I hadn't played in a basketball game in over a year, so I had to learn how to keep up with everybody else. Winning those games got our team geared up for our Thanksgiving tournament in Honolulu, Hawaii. The team was able to visit and take part in wonderful places like Pearl Harbor and Hanauma Bay. Our team had a tremendous opportunity to bond on and off the court. We were able to defeat Hawaii and Prairie View, but fell a little short against Stanford. We lost to them in overtime, in a gut-wrenching game. Even though we didn't come out 3-0 we felt like we learned a lot from that tournament. Once we got back to Indiana, we had to focus and get our minds ready for Maryland in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Maryland, ranked eighth at the time, was coming to Purdue and we were ready! We had a great turnout from our fans with over 10,000 people in attendance. Even though we were able to come back from an early deficit to take a lead, we didn't have enough left in us to finish the game.
Little did we know this was the beginning of three straight losses. We fell to No. 11 Notre Dame and then to Valparaiso. Right now we are on a mission to change our attitude and game plan so we can get back on track and start winning some games.
