CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Purdue Women’s Swimming & Diving was victorious in nine events and enjoyed four 1-2 finishes Friday to win its season-opening dual meet at Illinois 167.5-132.5.

The Boilermakers won their 11th consecutive dual meet contested during the fall semester, a streak that dates back to a season-opening victory at Notre Dame in October 2023. Illinois is the eighth different opponent Purdue has bested during the streak.

Freshman Caroline Mallard led the way in her collegiate debut, sweeping the butterfly events and contributing to the Boilers’ victorious 400 freestyle relay to close the meet. She broke two minutes in the 200 fly, moving into 12th place in program history with a time of 1:59.00 and teaming up with Campbell Scofield for a 1-2 finish.

Lara Phipps (100 free) and Adele Sands (1000 free) also won an event and joined Mallard on the relay winner. Caitin Hurley swam the leadoff leg on the 400 free relay and Phipps led the way with a 100 split of 50.11, the only sub-51 second mark in the field.

Freshman Lancy Chen was also victorious in her collegiate debut, winning the 200 breaststroke.

The Boilermakers went 1-2 while sweeping the springboard diving events. Avery Worobel was victorious on 1-meter and finished second behind Alexia Jackson-Hansen, the graduate transfer from BYU who was victorious on 3-meter in her Purdue debut.

Amie Perna led the way in the backstroke events, teaming up with Abbie Kehmeier for a 1-2 finish in the 100 back. She was also the runner-up in the 200 back as Boilermakers went 2-3-4 in the event. Additional 2-3-4 finishes in the 200 free and 200 medley relay helped mitigate Illinois’ gains in the team scoring by winning those events.

Purdue is back in action the weekend of Oct. 23-24 for a triple dual vs. Iowa and UCLA in Iowa City followed by the home opener, the annual Dan Ross Indiana Intercollegiate, Saturday, Oct. 24 at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center.
