WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – For the middle weekend of Purdue Baseball’s three straight with a fall exhibition game at home, the Boilermakers welcome Louisville back to Alexander Field on Saturday.
First pitch is set for 1 p.m. and the teams are again planning to play 16 innings regardless of the score. Twenty-nine Boilermakers (12 pitchers, 17 position players) saw action in Sunday’s 16-inning matchup vs Cincinnati as Purdue once again utilized a separate lineup and defensive alignment simultaneously. The primary focus of fall exhibition games continues to be reps for as many players as possible vs. the score of the action.
Trey Swiderski connected for a first-inning double and also went deep to right center for a home run against the Bearcats. Fellow returnee Zach Zychowski had three hits and a pair of RBI. On the mound, Cam Allen struck out three over two hitless innings as Purdue’s second pitcher of the day. Jacob Boland retired all four batters he faced, escaping a bases-loaded jam and then working a 1-2-3 inning the following frame. Troy Barrett, Bowen Salyards and Jackson Greer also pitched 1-2-3 innings.
The Boilermakers and Cardinals were a combined 67-47 last season. The teams have played each other in the fall three times this decade dating back to September 2022, the first year when Division I opponents were allowed to square off for fall exhibition games. Purdue traveled across the Ohio River to Jim Patterson Stadium in 2022 and 2023, with Louisville returning the trip in 2024. The Boilermakers’ final opponent this month, Dayton, has also been a regular opponent in the fall this decade.
An NCAA rule change for the 2026-27 school year allowed teams to double their number of fall exhibition games vs. Division I opponents from two to four. Admission is free for all fall ball events at Alexander Field.
