WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue’s Emilia Deppe and Grace Miller were named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week and Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively, as Purdue took down two ranked foes at home last week.
Both are first-career honors for the pair of juniors who played a major role in the team's success in beating No. 21 Michigan and No. 2 Michigan State.
Deppe not only helped hold down the defense to just conceding a lone goal in Purdue’s 2-1 win over No. 2 Michigan State, but the defender also scored two goals, including her first-career, while also recording an assist.
Deppe scored her first-career goal in the victory over No. 21 Michigan while also earning an assist, before scoring her second-career goal as the equalizer in the 2-1 victory over No. 2 Michigan State.
Deppe’s goal against Michigan was a part of the six that became Purdue’s largest number of goals scored over a ranked program.
Miller came into the match against No. 21 Michigan in the final nine minutes, immediately making a crucial save to preserve the 6-5 score. After earning the start against No. 2 Michigan State, Miller earned six saves in the match with a .091 GAA on the week in over 98 minutes in goal.
This is the first time in Purdue history that two Purdue goalkeepers have earned the honor in the same season.
Purdue’s win over No. 21 Michigan broke the program record for longest-unbeaten conference streak at six matches, which became seven, in the program’s second-highest ever ranked victory over #2 Michigan State.
Irene Campo also earned an individual honor this week after earning an assist on Thursday and then scoring the game-winning goal against No. 2 Michigan State. Campo was honored as a part of the TopDrawer Soccer Team of the Week.
