WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue Soccer earned its second ranked victory of the week when the Boilermakers defeated No. 2 Michigan State, 2-1.

Purdue’s second ranked win this week came after a thrilling 6-5 defeat of No. 21 Michigan on Thursday night at Folk Field. Sunday’s victory also extended the Boilers’ longest unbeaten streak in program history to seven.

The victory marks Purdue’s first win over a No. 2 opponent in program history. The Boilers are now 2-1 against ranked opponents this season.

Michigan State opened the scoring early with a goal in the second minute before Purdue responded just over six minutes later in the eighth minute when Emilia Deppe sent a ball in from outside the box on the right ride that trickled passed the goalkeeper into the bottom left corner.

Both teams created chances the rest of the half but went into the break level at one.

Out of the half, Purdue nearly scored on a ball right at the line in the 47th minute before a penalty was called and confirmed by VAR. Irene Campo was tasked with taking the penalty and buried it to give Purdue a 2-1 victory. With the Boilers able to blank the Spartans the rest of the way, Purdue earned its victory over the second-ranked team in the country.

Goalkeeper Grace Miller started for the second time this season and she made six saves. It was her first start since Aug. 13 vs. Evansville and just her third appearance of the season.

Campo scored her sixth goal of the season, while Deppe scored her second.
