DUAL MEET INFORMATION
Purdue at Illinois

ARC Pool / Champaign, Illinois

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.
– Purdue Women’s Swimming & Diving opens its season with a Big Ten dual meet for the first time this century, continuing its home-and-home series vs. Illinois with a trip west across the state line.

Action at the ARC Pool in Champaign is set for Friday at 6 p.m. ET. The teams are planning to use the default 16-event dual meet lineup.

The Boilermakers have not opened their season with a traditional head-to-head dual vs. a Big Ten opponent since defeating Iowa at Lambert Pool on Halloween of 1998. Purdue did visit Michigan State for its season-opening meet during the first weekend of October in 2015. But that was a unique triple dual that also featured Michigan, a meet contested at MSU’s long course campus rec center dubbed the Michigan State Outdoor Invitational.

After a seven-season break, Illinois returned to the Boilermakers’ regular-season schedule during the abbreviated 2020-21 campaign, making this year seven of the current home-and-home series. Unlike team sports, the Big Ten Conference does not schedule regular-season dual meet matchups in swimming & diving. In January 2023, Purdue made its first trip to Champaign since November 1991.

The Boilermakers have won 10 consecutive dual meets during the fall semester dating back to a season-opening victory at Notre Dame in October 2023.

OPPONENTS DURING FALL SEMESTER DUAL MEET WIN STREAK
• Fall 2025: Missouri, vs Cincinnati, at Oakland, Iowa
• Fall 2024: at Missouri, at Rutgers
• Fall 2023: at Notre Dame, UIndy, Rutgers, Oakland

Purdue is 13-7 in its first dual meet of the season under 19th-year head coach John Klinge. Three of those losses came as part of triple duals. This year marks the 11th time under Klinge that the Boilermakers’ season opener is a dual meet.

Purdue also competes against Big Ten rivals Iowa, UCLA, Indiana, Minnesota and Northwestern for duals meet action this season. Iowa and UCLA, Minnesota and Northwestern are both triple-dual matchups.

The Purdue men open their season next weekend at the two-day Seminole Fall Classic in Tallahassee. The Boilermakers will be represented by 12 swimmers and three divers.
