GLENCOE, Ill. – Going up against some of the best teams in the country, the Purdue women’s golf team sits in fourth place following the first two rounds of the Windy City Collegiate Classic at Lake Shore Country Club. The Boilermakers (+8) find themselves ahead of four teams ranked in the WGCA Top 25 heading into Tuesday’s final round.
No. 11 Stanford (-9), the defending national champions, holds an eight-shot lead over No. 4 Oregon (-1). The Boilermakers are four shots behind No. 8 Virginia and two strokes ahead of No. 15 Duke and Columbia, who are tied for fifth at 10-over.
Lauren Timpf paced Purdue by finishing the day under par. The junior began the tournament with an even-par 71 that featured a bogey-free 32 (-3) on the back nine. During the afternoon, she made the turn at even par. Following a bogey at the 12th, Timpf played the final seven holes 2-under, without a bogey, to get into red figures. She is tied for seventh at 1-under after 36 holes.
Ashley Kim (+1) finds herself in the Top 10 on the individual leaderboard. After an opening round 72 (+1), Kim shaved a stroke off her score with a 71 (E) in the second round that included a pair of birdies on par 3s.
Sophomore Luana Valero (+3) led the Boilermakers in the first round with a 1-under 70. She started out on fire with birdies on four of her first seven holes to sit alone atop the leaderboard at 4-under. Valero could not find a birdie on the back side but still held on to her under-par round.
Reigning Big Ten Golfer of the Week Samantha Brown, fresh off medalist honors at the Fighting Irish Classic, contributed to the team scores with rounds of 73 (+2) and 74 (+3).
The Boilermakers look finish off a strong performance in a tough field, starting the final round at 8:30 a.m. ET on Tuesday.
