WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue Baseball opens its expanded four-game fall exhibition schedule with a visit from Cincinnati for the first of three straight weekends with a home date at Alexander Field.
First pitch is set for 1:30 p.m. Sunday and the teams are planning to play 16 innings regardless of the score. Furthermore, in recent years, the Boilermakers have opted to not even use the runs portion of the scoreboard for fall exhibition games played at Alexander. With unlimited substitutions in play and Purdue typically using separate defensive alignments and batting lineups simultaneously, the primary focus of fall exhibition games is the reps for as many players as possible vs. the score of the action.
The Boilermakers have 22 new players on the roster this fall – six freshmen and 16 transfers – and a large majority of them will take the field in a Purdue uniform for the first time Sunday. They’ll do so against a Cincinnati team that has qualified for an NCAA Regional each of the last two years.
The Boilermakers and Bearcats were a combined 75-42 last season. Purdue (18-12) finished fifth in the Big Ten standings and UC (17-13) was sixth in the Big 12 Conference. The teams also split a 15-inning fall ball doubleheader a year ago in the Queen City. Cincinnati has not visited West Lafayette since a midweek matchup that doubled as the Boilers’ home opener at Lambert Field in March 2004.
An NCAA rule change for the 2026-27 school year allowed teams to double their number of fall exhibition games vs. Division I opponents from two to four. Admission is free for all fall ball events at Alexander Field.
