FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Purdue Women’s Golf finished strong, firing the lowest round of the day to crack the Top 5 at the Mason Rudolph Championship. Competing against a stacked field that featured five Top 25 teams, the Boilermakers carded a final round 280 (-4) to move up the leaderboard and claim fifth place.
No. 22 Mississippi State (-2) won the tournament, while No. 7 Florida and No. 15 Arizona State were one shot back of the Bulldogs. No. 9 Vanderbilt followed (+1), while Purdue (+10) rounded out the Top 5. The Boilermakers were under par in two of the three rounds, as a difficult second round prevented the Old Gold and Black from competing for the team title.
Purdue’s final round 280 was the 12th-lowest round in program history. The 54-hole total of 862 (281-301-862) cracked the Top 20 all-time and was the Boilermakers’ lowest tournament score since their school-record 837 at the 2023 Schooner Fall Classic.
Samantha Brown fired her second 68 (-3) of the tournament on Sunday, finishing with a 2-under 211 (68-75-68) to place seventh on the individual leaderboard. The junior got her round going with back-to-back birdies on the second and third holes before adding three more birdies on the back nine. The two rounds in the 60s helped Brown secure the sixth Top 10 of her career.
Sophomore Luana Valero carded her first round in the 60s of the season, posting a 69 (-2) to move up nearly 30 spots and into the Top 25. She made four birdies of her own on Sunday, while playing the final seven holes bogey free and 2-under par to lock up her low round.
Tied alongside Valero at 5-over was Lauren Timpf, who posted a pair of even-par 71s in between her second round 76. Timpf also finished strong on the back nine, draining two birdies and not making a bogey over her last eight holes.
Olivia Hemmila added a 72 (+1) for her best round of the tournament. The senior matched Brown with a team-high five birdies, including four on the back side. The 72 was the Oakland transfer’s lowest round as a Boilermaker.
Next weekend, the Boilermakers travel north for the Fighting Irish Classic in South Bend, Indiana (Sept. 26-27).
