FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Rounds of 68 (-3) by Samantha Brown and Ashley Kim led Purdue Women’s Golf in the opening round of the Mason Rudolph Championship at Vanderbilt Legends Club. Firing a 3-under 281 as a team, the program’s lowest round since 2024, the Boilermakers sit in second place and just three shots back of Florida (-6).
Purdue’s 281 team total was the 16th-lowest round in school history and the best since a 280 at the 2024 NCAA Las Vegas Regional.
Brown and Kim led the way with their 68s to sit tied for third on the individual leaderboard, one stroke behind the clubhouse leader. Kim made a team-high five birdies throughout the day to secure her lowest round as a Boilermaker. The senior started on fire with a bogey-free 32 (-3) on the front nine. Despite a pair of bogeys through the first four holes on the back side, back-to-back birdies on 14 and 15 brought Kim back to 3-under for the day.
Brown’s round featured four birdies, including three through the first five holes. Her lone bogey came at the par-3 ninth, and she rattled off eight straight pars before ending her round with a birdie on the par-5 18th.
Lauren Timpf put together a pair of even-par sides for a 71 (E). Following a double bogey to start the back nine, the junior bounced back with consecutive birdies on 11 and 12 to return to level par. Luana Valero also contributed to the team’s score with a 3-over 74. She steadied herself down the stretch by parring the final eight holes.
The Boilermakers look to chase the Gators and remain ahead of the rest of the field during Saturday’s second round. Purdue tees off alongside SEC foes Florida and Vanderbilt (-2), beginning at 11:10 a.m. ET.
