LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Boilers suffered their first loss of the season to open Big Ten play, falling 2-1 to the Bruins Thursday night at Wallis Annenberg Stadium.
Purdue moved to 6-1-1 overall and 0-1-0 in Big Ten play.
The Boilermakers finished with nine shots, including five on target, while UCLA recorded 11 shots and six shots on goal. Krystina Wolf made four saves in goal for Purdue.
UCLA struck first in the 18th minute. Purdue then responded late in the opening half. Rosa Maalouf scored the unassisted equalizer in the 44th minute to put the Boilers back on track.
The Bruins regained the lead just under four minutes into the second half, converting a penalty kick at 48:42 to make it 2-1.
Purdue continued to pressure for an equalizer in the closing minutes. Megan Santa Cruz's shot with just over a minute remaining was saved by the Bruins, but UCLA held on for the 2-1 victory.
The Boilers will continue their west coast trip with a match up against Southern California on Sunday.
