WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue’s Tanna Schornstein was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the conference on Tuesday.
This is a first-career honor for Schornstein who is in her third year in the Big Ten after playing for both Northwestern and USC. She is the first Purdue defender to earn the honor in five years, with Nicole Kevdzija being the last on Aug. 31, 2026.
Schornstein helped Purdue to another 2-0 week on defense, holding down the backline while playing all 180 minutes over both matches. Schornstein and the Boiler defense held opponents to just 11 shots against them, with just five on goal.
The Boilers scored eight unanswered goals on the week with the help of Schornstein who scored one of Purdue’s three goals in the 3-0 victory over Southern Indiana. Her second goal of the season, the first goal of the match, helped Purdue to clinch its fourth-straight shutout victory and remain undefeated in non-conference play with the first 5-0-1 record since 2000.
The Boilers will take on the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders this Thursday at 8:00 p.m. est before beginning conference play next week.
