KOKOMO, Ind. – Micah Sheffer’s outstanding summer continued on Thursday, winning the Indiana Golf Association’s (IGA) Match Play Championship, held at the Kokomo Country Club in Kokomo, Indiana.
Sheffer defeated University of Evansville junior Jamison Ousley in the championship match, winning in 19 holes. Sheffer held a 1-up lead through eight holes, but lost holes 9 and 10 to fall 1-down. After halving the next seven holes, including birdies on No. 17, Sheffer birdied the par-4 18th hole to move the match into extra holes.
He then won the 19th hole to earn the championship, his first tournament win of the summer.
Sheffer, who qualified for match play as the No. 2 seed after shooting a 5-under par 65 in stroke play, breezed to the finals. He won his round of 32 match in 19 holes, then won his next three matches by 3 & 2, 3 & 2 and 4&3 scores, respectively.
Sheffer has had an outstanding summer after redshirting during the spring season. He finished second, losing in a playoff, in the Indiana Open Championship and posted top-10 finishes at the North Atlantic Amateur (5th), the Rice Planters Amateur (3rd) and the Kenridge Invitational (9th). He also advanced out of local qualifying for the U.S. Open.
Sheffer arrived at Purdue with impressive credentials, being named the 2025 Golfweek Player of the Year while winning four events on the AJGA and Golfweek Junior Tours. On the football field, he quarterbacked Brownstown Central to the Class 2A State Championship game, leading an offense that averaged over 50.0 points per game. He was a starter for two years in basketball, helping Brownstown Central to the 2024 Class 2A State Championship, alongside current Boilermaker Jack Benter.
