WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Eight Purdue swimmers have crossed the equator for an opportunity to compete for the United States at the FISU America Games, the western hemisphere edition of the World University Games being held in Peru’s capital city.
Swimming at Lima’s Centro Acuático de la Videna (Videna Aquatic Center) is set for July 24-26, with the same events contested in both the morning preliminaries (11 a.m. ET) and evening finals (8 p.m. ET). The opening ceremonies for the FISU America Games – which features 14 sports – were held Tuesday evening. The Videna Aquatic Center also hosted the swimming events at the 2019 Pan American Games.
Competing for the UniUSA Team in Lima are Boilermakers Kate Mouser, Lara Phipps, Adele Sands and Campbell Scofield from the women’s roster as well as Maxwell Blume, Biko Hooper-Haviland, Evan Mackesy and Blake Rowe from the men’s team.
Scofield replaced Keira Kask on the roster after Kask had to withdraw for medical reasons that prevented her from flying. Kask won the 200-meter butterfly and posted three podium finishes at Indiana Senior Long Course Championships the weekend of July 17-19 in Indianapolis.
UniUSA is the U.S. delegation for the World University Games; it announced the 44 swimmers chosen to compete at the America Games in April. When the rosters were announced, Purdue’s eight total swimmers were the most of any university and the Boilermakers were the only school to have multiple selections from both genders.
Purdue’s entries are slated to compete in at least five individual events on all three days in Lima. Five relays are also on the schedule, including a pair of mixed-gender events.

Mackesy is one of three men on the UniUSA team that also qualified for the 2026 NCAA Championships. Hooper-Haviland (200-yard fly), Mackesy (400-yard IM), Rowe (200-yard back) and Phipps (400-yard free relay) all set Purdue records this past season. Scofield eclipsed the women’s record in the 200-meter butterfly with a time of 2:13.00 at the Eric Namesnik Memorial Invitational the weekend of June 26-28 at Michigan’s Canham Natatorium in Ann Abor.
FISU is the Federation Internationale du Sport Universitaire (International University Sports Federation), the organizing body of the biennial World University Games. FISU introduced the America Games in 2018. Similar to the quadrennial Pan American games, it features athletes from North, Central and South America.
The Boilermakers traditionally have representation in the aquatic events at the World University Games, most recently by five student-athletes at the 2025 WUG in Germany. The Purdue Divers won a pair of medals in synchronized events. Divers Steele Johnson and Ben Bramley represented USA Diving and the Boilermakers at the 2019 Pan Am Games in Peru. The country is also set to host the Pan Am Games again in July 2027.
In the coming weeks, Purdue is also set to be represented at the Central American and Caribbean Games, USA Swimming’s Toyota National Championships, Speedo Junior National Championships and European Aquatics Championships.
