WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Just days after earning Purdue's Female Athlete of the Year award, Moriah Polar becomes the first-ever Purdue softball player to be named a USA Softball Top 25 Player of the Year finalist.

Polar has comprised one of the best campaigns seen in Purdue softball history, breaking two individual Purdue records (single-season hits, single-season runs scored), tying the career-triples record, and writing herself into the Big Ten record book, tying for fifth in single-season hits.

The current national leader in hits (92), and the Big Ten leader in hits, batting average (.554), and stolen bases (28), Polar has 16 more hits than the next best in the Big Ten; Jordan Woolery of UCLA, a fellow Top-25 list honoree, has 76 hits.

Purdue has a guaranteed four games left in the season, and with one more hit, Polar will tie for third in the Big Ten record book for single-season hits. If Polar is able to surpass the 100 single-season hits mark, she will stand alone at third in the record book.

Not only has Polar set individual accomplishments this season, but she helped Purdue to break the 23-year-old program-record for longest win streak, setting a new mark at 14 games. As a team, Purdue broke five records this season: single-season RBI, single-season runs scored, single-season home runs, and single-season double plays.

Polar is joined by three other members of the Big Ten conference in Woolery, Megan Grant and Jordy Frahm.

With one final series left to go, Polar and the Boilermakers look to continue their historic season.
