EAST LANSING, Mich. – Following a hard-fought battle at No. 23 Michigan State, which saw Purdue take the doubles point, the Boilermakers fell to the Big Ten regular-season champions, 1-4.
With the result, Purdue’s season comes to a close with a 5-17 (1-12 Big Ten) record.
The Boilermakers opened the match with a strong doubles showing, earning their third doubles point win in the last four duals. Despite the Spartans taking a 1-0 doubles lead with the win on court No. 2, the No. 1 position pairing of Maj Premzl and Henrik Villanger produced a 6-4 result, followed by the freshmen Jacob Lee and Nikola Jovic clinching the point, 6-4.
Nour Fathalla, who entered the match with four ranked wins, this season, led against No. 16 nationally-ranked Matthew Forbes: 6-1,4-6, 2-1 before ultimately going unfinished.
