ATLANTA – A Purdue diver placed ninth at the NCAA Championships for the second day in a row as Daryn Wright’s fourth consecutive top-10 showing at the national championship meet earned her a fifth career All-America honor.

With a list score of 323.65 on 3-meter Friday, Wright finished ninth among a field of 48 competitors in the preliminary. Avery Worobel (278.70) placed 32nd after being ninth on 1-meter Thursday.

Dating back to the platform event at the 2024 NCAA Championships when she qualified for her first career championship final at NCAAs, Wright has been top 10 in four straight events. Friday’s showing earned her honorable mention All-America accolades as her fifth career scoring finish at the national championship meet.

The senior closes out her career as Purdue’s lone entry in platform diving Saturday. The Boilermakers have had a women’s championship finalist on the tower every year the meet has been held since 2017.

With 18 team points, Purdue is in 26th place at the NCAA Championships entering the final day of the showcase.

Wright finished 5.2 points behind the eighth-place finisher in the prelim, who in turn was the last qualifier for the championship final. There are no consolation finals at NCAAs this year. Wright’s third-round score of 58.5 was her top mark and ranked fifth among the field in that round.

Worobel also had the fifth-best score (55.5) of round 2, but she missed her next dive and the score of 33.6 made it an uphill climb to be able to make it into the top eight or 16.

Saturday’s platform event features the prelim at noon. Rounds 1-2 of the championship final are at 6:25 p.m. and rounds 3-5 at 7:02 p.m. A top-16 finish for Wright would give the Purdue women an All-American in all three diving events again.
