ATLANTA Avery Worobel finished ninth among a field of 51 competitors in 1-meter diving to earn honorable mention All-America accolades in the event for the second year at the NCAA Championships.

Throughout the prelim, Worobel was in contention among the top eight to advance to the championship final. She finished with a list score of 282.20, 6.35 points shy of the eighth-place finisher. The final dive of her list produced a score of 49.40 and moved her up multiple spots on the leaderboard. She had three scores of 49-plus Thursday.

Worobel finished 12th on 1-meter as a freshman at NCAAs last year. She has accounted for Purdue’s first scoring finish of the national championship meet each of her first two years as a Boilermaker. There are no consolation finals being contested at NCAAs this season.

Senior Reagan Mattice closed out her career with a time of 16:22.67 in the 1650 freestyle Wednesday morning. She finished 29th overall in the timed-finals event, improving on her seeding position entering the meet. Mattice will graduate ranked third in team history via her lifetime best of 16:14.70 in the mile, which in turn earned her a berth at NCAAs. Her time Wednesday would have ranked eighth all-time at Purdue.

Worobel’s scoring finish Thursday gave the Purdue women an All-American diver in 21 of the last 22 years the national championship meet has been held. That run dates back to 2004.

Daryn Wright and Worobel represent Purdue in 3-meter diving Friday at NCAAs. Headlined by Worobel’s Big Ten championship, both Boilermakers medaled in the event at the conference championships last month.
