Ryan Wheeler Joins Volleyball Staff

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Art & Connie Euler women’s volleyball head coach Dave Shondell has announced the hiring of Ryan Wheeler as Technical Coordinator & Performance Analyst. Wheeler will be responsible for scouting opponents, will assist in the creation of game plans, oversee the team’s managers and practice players, and more.

“Ryan has a tremendous background in the sport of volleyball and is well-skilled in the areas of which we need him to excel,” Shondell said. “Ryan played youth volleyball in St. Louis on a top club, competed at Pepperdine University, and learned the ropes as an analytics person at University of Texas. We expect our technology director to fill a variety of roles in our Purdue program and Ryan has the ability to do that.”

No stranger to programs with a rich history of excellence and recent top-10 finishes, Wheeler comes to Purdue from Texas, where he served as a coaching intern and technical coordinator for Longhorn Volleyball for the last two seasons. While with Texas, Wheeler assisted the coaching staff in a multitude of capacities including film breakdown and scouting for a team that finished sixth in the AVCA final poll in December. Simultaneously, he was serving as head coach in the Austin Juniors Volleyball club system, where he oversaw all aspects of team operations, including practice planning, player development and game strategy.

Wheeler played men’s volleyball at Pepperdine, graduating in 2024 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and minors in business and art.
