Coleman Named B1G Freshman of the Week

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue Track & Field’s Jax Coleman was named the Big Ten Men’s Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.

Coleman ran a 47.21 split as the leadoff leg of a 4x400m team that ran 3:07.38 at the Corky Classic to enter Purdue’s program rankings at No. 5. Due to altitude, the time converted to 3:07.82 for national rankings purposes and sits eighth in the country. It leads the Big Ten by over two seconds.

The Ocean Springs, Miss. native also ran the 200m (21.69) and was the fifth-highest freshman finisher at the Corky Classic.

Coleman’s B1G honor is Purdue’s first of the track season. During the cross country season, Douglas Buckeridge earned Big Ten Men’s Athlete of the Week (Oct. 8) and Nate Assa earned Big Ten Men’s Freshman of the Week (Sept. 3).

Purdue returns to action Jan. 23-24 at the Crossroads of America Invitational in Indianapolis.
