  • Purdue fell to Kentucky 78-65 in Friday's exhibition game in Rupp Arena.
  • Purdue has now dropped all three of its exhibition games against Division I opponents in the last three years (Arkansas - 2023; Creighton - 2024; Kentucky - 2025).

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- No. 9 Kentucky used a 7-0 run midway through the second half to break open a tight game and hand No. 1 Purdue a 78-65 setback in an exhibition game at Rupp Arena. 

Purdue trailed 38-30 at halftime, but cut the lead to 44-41 on a Braden Smith 3-point play at the first media timeout of the second half. However, Kentucky held Purdue to make just two of its next 15 shots and used a 7-0 run to push the lead 51-41 with 14 minutes to play.

Purdue would get no closer than eight points the rest of the way in losing its exhibition game for the third straight year. 

Trey Kaufman-Renn led Purdue with 19 points and five rebounds, while Fletcher Loyer had 14 points and two rebounds. Braden Smith added 11 points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals. 

Purdue shot just 22-of-57 (.386) from the field, including an icy 3-of-17 (.176) from 3-point range. Purdue was 18-of-22 (.818) from the free throw line. 

The Boilermakers had just seven turnovers, but was outrebounded 42-30. 

Purdue will host UIndy on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. ET, in Mackey Arena in the final exhibition game.
