Hantson Earns Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week

Purdue Outdoor Track & Field's Andreas Hantson was named the Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue Outdoor Track & Field's Andreas Hantson was named the Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.
 
Hantson, a sophomore, turned in the No. 5 decathlon performance in the NCAA this season with 7,686 points at the Bryan Clay Multis. The total sits atop the Big Ten and was No. 2 in school history. He fell just 22 points shy of the school record.
 
With his 7,686 points, Hantson took the decathlon 'Group B' victory at the Bryan Clay Multis and led all 44 decathletes that placed at the meet.
 
Hanton's showing was highlighted by a victory in the high jump (2.12m / 6-11.50) that tied his personal best. He also finished second with personal bests in the 1500m (4:26.31) and long jump (7.37m / 24-02.25). He also earned personal bests in the 100m (11.05), 110m hurdles (15.21) and shot put (13.10m / 42-11.75).
 
He becomes the first Boilermaker to earn a weekly honor this outdoor season and is the first of his career. Hantson is the reigning decathlon silver medalists at the 2024 Big Ten Outdoor Championships and earned All-Big Ten Second Team.
 
Purdue is in the midst of a busy week with distance in California (April 16-18) and jumps, sprints and throws in Florida (April 18-19).
