WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue (21-17, 5-8 Big Ten) earned a quick 8-0 win against Eastern Illinois (19-17, 11-3 OVC) during the midweek match up on Thursday.
Kendall Klochack had a standout game in the circle, pitching a career-high eight strikeouts. The fourth inning sent twelve batters to the plate and a final run in the fifth frame earned the Boilermakers to the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Purdue came out ready to play in the first inning with a strikeout from Klochack, followed by two outs in the outfield. At the plate, Khloe Banks and Moriah Polar singled to the outfield, but were left on base.
Klochack earned another strikeout at the start of the second frame, while the Panthers registered one hit in the inning. The third inning brought no runs or hits from either team.
When Purdue took the field again, Klochack sent down Eastern Illinois with three straight strikeouts. The Boilers made headlines in the bottom of the fourth frame with seven runs on nine hits. Three two-RBI hits came from Sage Scarmardo, Kylie Franks and Delaney Reefe. Julia Gossett and Reefe both tallied two hits in the inning.
Klochack struck out the first two batters in the seventh frame. The Panthers added another hit to the scoreboard, but did not score. Scarmardo led off with a successful bunt in the bottom of the inning and scored on Jordyn Ramos's double, forcing mercy rule and giving Purdue the victory.
