FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – Purdue's Avery Worobel placed 12th among a field of 48 in 1-meter diving, earning honorable mention All-America accolades in her debut at the NCAA Championships as a true freshman.

Worobel placed fourth in the consolation final after being 10th of 48 in the prelim. She joined Kara Cook (2008) and Casey Matthews (2009) as the Boilermakers' female divers to earn All-America accolades at NCAAs as true freshmen. Friday on 3-meter, Worobel will aim to become Purdue's first female since 2016 to be an All-American on both springboards.

Jenna Sonnenberg placed 23rd in the 1-meter prelim to finish among the top half of the field in her first of three events this week. Sonnenberg is competing at NCAAs for the third time in her career, but it was also her debut on 1-meter at the national championship meet. Thursday marked the best finish of her career at NCAAs.

Worobel's showing gave the Purdue women at least one All-American diver for the 20th time in the last 21 years the meet has been held dating back to 2004. She improved on her prelim score (295.60) by 5.5 points in the consolation final (301.15).

Sonnenberg and Worobel will be joined in Friday's 3-meter diving field by teammates Sophie McAfee and Daryn Wright, who both earned All-America accolades in the event a year ago. The prelim begins at 3:15 p.m. ET, the consolation final is set for 8:15 p.m. ET and the championship final is at approximately 10:30 p.m. ET.
