WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue Baseball's final weekend series outside of Big Ten Conference play features a familiar foe in the first base dugout as UIC is the opponent for the first of six home weekends this season at Alexander Field.

First pitch is set for 4 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. The forecast calls for temperatures in the 70s Friday and Saturday before it dips considerably Sunday. Wednesday's crowd of 1,413 was a record for a home opener at Alexander. Spring break on campus begins Friday afternoon.

The Boilermakers and Flames have played a midweek home-and-home series each of the last three years, with UIC taking five of the six meetings. All three games in West Lafayette were memorable matchups. In 2022, the Flames scored 10 unanswered runs over the final three innings to win 10-9, stunning an 18-1 Purdue team. A year later, UIC scored four times in the top of the ninth to steal a 6-4 victory. Last season's game went 14 innings as both teams' longest of the year. The Boilermakers posted an in-game shutout with nine consecutive scoreless innings from the fifth through the 13th, but the Flames scored twice in the top of the 14th and survived the bottom half of the frame to win 6-5 as the home team left the bases loaded.

Purdue finally ended a five-game skid against UIC with a victory in Chicago late last season, riding a five-run first inning and three innings of one-hit relief from Avery Cook to an 11-9 win. Ty Gill hit one of the Boilers' four home runs in the game.

The Boilermakers and Flames played abbreviated two-game weekend series against each other in March 2009 and 2013, splitting both in Chicago. Each of the last eight meetings dating back to 2014 have been single midweek games.

Carter Doorn enters the weekend leading the Big Ten and ranked ninth nationally with a 0.47 ERA, allowing just one earned run in 19 innings over his first 19 innings. Easton Storey leads the Big Ten and ranks fourth nationally with a 14.7 strikeouts per nine innings average (30 Ks in 18 1/3 IP). They've teamed up with Cook and the rest of the pitching staff to make Purdue the league leader in ERA (3.36) while also ranking second in K/9 (10.1).

This weekend, Doorn is slated to make his first start at Alexander Field since April 26, 2023, vs. Miami (Ohio). Doorn pitched in both games against the Flames last season and drew the start in Chicago in May 2023. Storey will make his first-ever start at Alexander on Saturday.
