EVANSTON, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has released the final brackets and opening round matchups for the 2025 Big Ten Wrestling Championships. All 10 of the previously announced pre-seeds for the Boilermakers remained unchanged following Friday's coaches' meeting.
The Boilermakers drew matchups against wrestlers from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska, Northwestern, Rutgers and Wisconsin in round one which is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. ET on Saturday morning. Six of the nine opening round bouts are rematches from earlier in the season.
Top-ranked Matt Ramos holds the No. 1 seed and the only first-round bye on the team. He will face the winner of No. 8 Nicolar Rivera (WIS) and No. 9 Cooper Flynn (MIN) in the Quarterfinals.
Ramos has faced both wrestlers before and won both contests, most recently over Rivera in an 11-2 major decision to help Purdue beat Wisconsin 33-7 on Feb. 7. Flynn was pinned by Ramos in their only meeting on Jan. 1, 2023, when he was at Virginia Tech before transferring to Minnesota.
Sophomore Joey Blaze is the next highest-ranked Boilermaker with the No. 6 seed in a talented 157-pound division. He's set to square off against No. 11 Jason Kraisser (ILL), whom he defeated earlier this season via 8-1 decision.
Also of note, No. 8 Brody Baumann will face No. 9 Lucas Condon (WIS) in a rematch from Purdue's February bout with the Badgers. Purdue's 174-pounder bested Condon that day in a 12-9 sudden-victory decision.
