WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue men's tennis squad secured a 6-1 victory versus Butler on Saturday evening. With the win, Purdue (8-1) will remain undefeated at home heading into Big Ten play, owning a perfect 8-0 record inside Schwartz Tennis Center. Meanwhile, Buter falls to 6-7 (0-1 Big East).
As a team, Purdue has allowed one point or fewer in the last four consecutive matches, dating back to February 9. Nearly half of its matches have come in shutout fashion.
The Boilermakers dominated the dual, beginning with doubles where they breezed to the team point behind wins at No. 1 Aleska Krivokapic / Juan David Velasquez (6-2) and No. 3 Maj Premzl / Henrik Villanger (6-3).
Juan David Velasquez moved into the No. 1 spot after teammate Krivokapic scratched. The sophomore earned his first collegiate victory at the No. 1 spot with the opportunity, taking down Patrick Joss, 6-2, 6-2. Velasquez, who made his second appearance of the season in the spot, improves to 7-2 overall in singles in 2025 and 11-4 throughout the 2024-25 academic year.
Meanwhile, at the No. 2 position, the Big Ten Player of the Week Henrik Villanger breezed to a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Riccardo Baldi to finish first singles play. The Oslo, Norway, native wraps up non-con action with an 8-1 singles record in 2025 and 10-4 overall during 2024-25.
The Boilermakers are set to begin Big Ten play next week with their trip to the west coast. Purdue will open conference action at No. 21 USC on Saturday, March 8 at 4 p.m. ET followed by a 2 p.m. ET showdown at No. 52 UCLA on Sunday, March 9 at 2 p.m. ET.
