The Purdue men's golf team resumes its season for the first time in almost four months when it heads to Puerto Rico for the 32nd Puerto Rico Classic.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue men's golf team resumes its season for the first time in almost four months when it heads to Puerto Rico for the 32nd Puerto Rico Classic, starting Monday.
 
Competing against one of best fields in NCAA golf, the Boilermakers head to Puerto Rico for the 26th straight event (2021 tournament was not held). The Boilermakers are looking for their first win in the history of the event and have placed in the top three, three previous times.
 
The field is one of the strongest in collegiate golf as four of the nation's top-8 ranked teams will be in the field, including No. 1 Ole Miss. The Boilermakers are the top-ranked Big Ten team among the five teams competing and all 15 teams are ranked in the top 101 of the national rankings.
 
Action begins Monday and will run through Wednesday, with the 15 teams playing 18 holes each day.
 
The Fallen Oak Invitational features nine teams ranked in the nation's top 50 in the first installment of the Clippd Golf National Rankings released Monday. Included in the field is five SEC teams ranked in the top 29 and four Big Ten teams competing for the last time this fall.

  • Purdue has finished in the top four in three of its six events this fall and owns a 46-33-0 (.582) head-to-head record this fall. The Boilermakers own 10 wins over the top 50.
  • The Boilermakers own a 288.00 stroke average this fall, which would currently rank as the fourth-best team average in school history behind 2022 (286.63), 2024 (287.57) and 2023 (287.77).
  • Purdue owns just one individual top-five tournament finishes this season (Sam Easterbrook à T-5 at the Purdue Fall Invitational).
  • Four of Purdue's 18 team rounds have been at even- or under-par this fall.

    • Owns five top-25 showings this season.
    • Owns a 72.89 career stroke average (4th in school history).
    • Won the 2024 Puerto Rico Classic for only collegiate victory, with the fifth-best score in tournament history (201; -15).
  • Sam Easterbrook – Sophomore; Tomworth, England
    • Has had an up-and-down season (T-6, T-73, T-5, T-25, T-17; T-17).
    • Has four top-6 finishes in last eight regular-season events dating to last year.
    • Posted the fourth-best freshman scoring average in school history last season (73.36).
    • Twenty-two of his 51 career rounds have been even- or under-par.
  • Supapon Amornchaichan – Freshman; Bangkok, Thailand
    • Top career placing came at the Fighting Irish Classic (T-12; +1).
    • Played well in season opener, posting T-15 finish at 1-under par 215; played final two rounds in 2-under par.
    • Finished in the top 50 in four of six events so far this year.
    • Has had a team-counting round in 17 of 18 rounds this season.
    • A highly-regarded recruit, Amornchaichan was an AJGA Honorable Mention All-America honoree.
    • Won four titles during the 2022-23 season, including a pair of AJGA events.
    • Was fourth at the Western Junior Championship in 2023.
  • Jenson Forrester – Sophomore; Wolverhampton, England
    • Finished in the top 10 at the Fighting Irish Classic (T-7), his second top-10 showing in his last four events (3rd at Purdue Fall Individual).
    • Has three top-35 finishes so far this year (T-33rd at Island Resort Intercollegiate).
    • Was a regular a year ago at East Tennessee State, averaging 72.53 strokes per round and a pair of top-20 finishes.
    • Finished T-15 at the SoCon Men's Golf Championship and T-72 at the NCAA Championships.
  • Kent Hsiao – Senior; Taipei, Taiwan
    • Finished T-9th at the season-opening Island Resort Intercollegiate.
    • Missed the Inverness Intercollegiate to compete in the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship (finished T-42).
    • Has missed a pair of tournaments this season.
    • Owns a 73.19 career stroke average, good for sixth in school history.
    • Held the 36-hole lead at last year's NCAA Regional appearance at the Kampen-Cosler Course.
 
PREVIOUSLY AT THE PUERTO RICO CLASSIC
The Boilermakers are making their 26th appearance in the Puerto Rico Classic, finishing in the top three just three times (2002, 2012, 2018), while boasting the defending individual champion, Nels Surtani. The Boilermakers also finished fourth in 2022 behind Oklahoma, Georgia and Tennessee, firing the second-best, 54-hole score in school history (818; -46).
 
THE COURSE
Stretching along the Grand Reserve beachfront peninsula, with El Yunque rainforest as a backdrop, patrons will experience an epic 18 holes of championship golf. After competing at the Rio Mar Country Club since its inception, the Puerto Rico Classic moved to the Grand Reserve Golf Club 2022 after being played at the Rio Mar Country Club previously.
