WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue men's tennis team (1-0) opened its season in dominating fashion with a 7-0 victory vs. Northern Illinois (0-1) at Schwartz Tennis Center on Friday.
The shutout marked Purdue's first since 2022 and the first season-opener shutout since 2018.
Stefan Simeunovic closed out the match with a dominating showing in the 10-point tiebreaker on the No. 2 singles court with 6-4, 4-6,1-0 (10-3) scores. Meanwhile, No. 1 singles Aleksa Krivokapic picked up where he left off in the fall, extending his winning streak to six consecutive matches.
In doubles, Juan David Velasquez and Daniel Labrador were the first pair to pick up a win (6-2) as they improved to a 4-1 doubles record together. The Boilermakers clinched the doubles point with first-time pairing of Stefan Simeuonvic and Nour Fathalla's 6-2 win.
The men return to action tomorrow at 3 p.m. ET to take on Dayton. Admission to Schwartz Tennis Center is free.
