WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Douglas Buckeridge has earned a spot in the 5000m at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener hosted by Boston University on Saturday, Dec. 7. It will be the first event run by a Purdue athlete in the 2024-25 Indoor Track & Field campaign.

The men's 5000m is set to begin at 6:45 p.m. and will air on FloTrack. Buckeridge will run in the sixth heat out of nine total in the event that holds a maximum of 225 entries.

In 2023, all 16 men's NCAA Indoor Championships qualifying times in the 5000m came at Boston University's home facility. The facility makes Saturday's meet a high demand around the country.

Buckeridge earned a spot in the field after his late-season improvements during the cross country campaign. After finishing 21st at the Big Ten Championships in the 8K, Buckeridge followed with a second-place finish at the Great Lakes Regional. He ran a program-record 29:12.9 in the 10K race.

The Melbourne, Australia native followed the performance with a 29:27.6 in the NCAA Cross Country Championships 10K that placed him 43rd. He became the ninth runner in program history to finish top 50 at the NCAA Championships during the 10K format (since 1976).

After Buckeridge's race on Saturday, the full team begins its indoor campaign on Friday, Dec. 13 at the Blue Demon Holiday Invitational in Chicago.
