KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Purdue Wrestling is ready to compete in the third annual Tiger Style Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 9, the team's first tournament of the season. Action from Staley High School will run all day beginning at 11 a.m. ET, with a break prior to the first and third-place matches.
The event marks Purdue's first trip to Kansas City since the 2024 NCAA Championships, when the Boilers sent five representatives to the Big Dance. All five qualifiers returned this season, including No. 4 Matt Ramos, No. 18 Joey Blaze, No. 22 Stoney Buell, No. 30 Brody Baumann and Greyson Clark.
Last year's "Fab 5" will be among Purdue's travel party of 15 heading to Staley High. The strong field of competition consists of No. 9 Missouri (host), No. 21 Little Rock, Cal Poly, SIUE and fellow Big Ten foe Maryland.
Cal Poly and Maryland were among the "others receiving votes" category in the first NWCA Coaches Poll this week.
There will be numerous opportunities for big wins with a total of 28 non-Purdue ranked wrestlers (via InterMat) set to compete on Saturday. Thirteen of those 28 wrestlers rank in the top 15 of their respective weight classes.
Baumann, Ramos and James Rowley are all coming off dominant performances at Gardner-Webb last Friday, where each landed pins to open their season with a bang. Blaze notched a tech fall in a commanding 20-4 victory to pace Purdue in points.
In the Boilermakers' 34-10 win over the Runnin' Bulldogs, Buell and Hayden Filipovich notched major decisions while Isaac Ruble earned a come-from-behind decision in the final seconds of his match.
Orlando Cruz, Jacob Macatangay, Isaiah Quintero, Jaden Reynolds and Christian White are set to make their season debuts.
The tournament broadcast will be streamed live on FloWrestling. Be sure to follow @PurdueWrestling on X/Twitter to keep up with live match coverage.
