WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Team USA bounced back in Paris for its first victory of the Olympics in a thrilling five-set victory vs. two-time world champions Serbia (25-17, 25-20, 20-25, 14-25, 17-15).
Drews was instrumental in the win, setting the team up for both match point opportunities at 15-14 and 16-15. Meanwhile, she picked up where she left off on Monday, registering the first kill of the match and went on to lead the team with 16 points, including 15 kills. Five of her kills came in the fifth set
It was the second straight fifth-set the Americans have faced.
Next, the U.S. will face France on Sunday at 7 a.m. ET on NBC for the final match of Pool play.
The U.S. is a member of Pool A, which includes Serbia, China and host country France. After a round-robin play, the top-two teams from each pool and the two best third-place teams will qualify for the quarterfinals. Rankings are determined on a point system in which teams receive three points for a 3-0 victory or 3-1 victory, two points for a 3-2 victory and one point for a match lost in the fifth set.
