Enekwechi Qualifies for Paris Olympic Games

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue track & field alumnus Chukwuebuka Enekwechi has qualified for his second Olympic Games in the shot put.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue track & field alumnus Chukwuebuka Enekwechi has qualified for his second Olympic Games in the shot put.
 
Enekwechi, who also competed at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, earned his spot at the 2024 Paris Games when he won his fourth consecutive Nigerian Athletics Championships in the shot put on June 16 in Benin City, Nigeria.
 
The No. 9-ranked thrower in the world, Enekwechi's first attempt of 21.37 meters secured the victory. He achieved his Olympic qualifying mark of 21.91m at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, last month.
 
At his first Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021, Enekwechi placed 12th in the shot put final with a mark of 19.74m. He was 11th at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene thanks to a mark of 20.65m.
 
In his Purdue career from 2013-16, Enekwechi was a 12-time All-American and five-time NCAA medalist. He is the school record-holder in the shot put (20.37m) and hammer throw (72.77m) outdoors and shot put (19.95m) and weight throw (24.39m) indoors. Enekwechi's NCAA medals include two silvers in 2016, in the shot put outdoors and weight throw indoors. He won 12 Big Ten medals, including four golds, and was a three-time Big Ten Field Athlete of the Year.
