WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue track & field team has 16 entries that have qualified for the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships First Round, as unveiled by the NCAA on Thursday.
Fifteen individuals and one relay will represent the Boilermakers in Lexington, Kentucky, from May 22-25.
Purdue's qualifiers are graduate students Cameron Miller (200m) and Safin Wills (long jump, triple jump), senior Caleb Williams (3,000m steeplechase), juniors Praise Aniamaka (triple jump), Cale Ayers (hammer throw), Emma Squires (3,000m steeplechase), Zoe Sullivan (100m hurdles) and Rieko Wilford (triple jump), sophomores Seth Allen (discus), Collin Kao (pole vault), Nolan Macklin (100m) and Leo Maxwell (hammer throw), freshmen Bode Gilkerson (high jump) and Alexia Smith (400m) and the men's 4x400 relay.
Miller and Aniamaka both qualified for the NCAA First Round after also competing at the national championships indoors earlier this season. Miller is making his fourth career NCAA appearance, as he also earned berths indoors and outdoors in 2023. Aniamaka will make his third career NCAA trip and second outdoors, along with last year.
Wilford and Wills also qualified for their third career NCAA Championships. Wilford is making her third NCAA appearance outdoors in as many years, and Wills made it outdoors in 2021 and 2022. Wills has qualified in both the long jump and triple jump all three years.
Allen and Macklin are back for a second NCAA berth, having made their debuts last season outdoors.
Ayers, Gilkerson, Kao, Maxwell, Smith and Sullivan will make their first NCAA appearance next weekend in Kentucky. Williams and Squires are at their first NCAA track & field meet, but Squires has raced at three NCAA cross country regionals and Williams at two.
Purdue's men's 4x400 relay has qualified in back-to-back years.
The NCAA East Prelims, along with the West Prelims, feature 48 qualifiers in each individual event and 24 teams in each relay. The top 12 finishers in every event from both the east and west will advance to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, from June 5-8.
