WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Coming off two straight wins and a series victory vs. Rutgers, the Purdue softball team (14-18, 2-4 Big Ten) is set for a midweek doubleheader at Indiana, which will air on Big Ten Network, and a weekend three-game series vs. Iowa on B1G+.


SERIES VICTORY VS RUTGERS

  • Purdue took down Rutgers in the final two games vs. Rutgers for the series win (6-5 in 8 innings and 5-3).
  • The Boilermakers held the Scarlet Knights scoreless for 17 of its 22 innings.
  • Julia Gossett tossed a team-best .095 ERA after entering the game in the 7th inning and closed out the extra-inning win. In her two appearances last week, she allowed just one run on two hits and struck out five batters while holding the opponents to a .087 batting average over 7.1 innings.
  • Designated player Kyndall Bailey registered a team-leading three runs over the series, including the game-winning walk-off run in extras for Game 2. 

THE FASTEST DUO IN THE BIG TEN

  • The underclassmen duo of Moriah Polar and Khloe Banks are the fastest in the Big Ten, ranking first and second, respectively, in the Big Ten in stolen bases.
RIVALRY HISTORY
  • Purdue is looking for its first win vs. Indiana since April 4, 2021 (W 5-4 in 9 innings).
  • The teams have met for doubleheaders for the last eight seasons.
  • Purdue last swept the series in 2014 with a pair of 4-1 wins in West Lafayette, part of a larger six consecutive wins in the rivalry (2012-2014).

SCOUTING THE INDIANA HOOSIERS 

  • After the eighth week of their season, the Indiana Hoosiers have an overall record of 23-12, are 0-6 in Big Ten play, picking up a top-25 win vs. No.15 Oregon in their season opener.  
  • Indiana and Purdue are the two fastest teams in the Big Ten. The Hoosiers (80-96) have more stolen base attempts than Purdue (73-84), but have also been caught stealing more than the Boilermakers.  
  • The Hoosiers have a well-rounded line-up at the plate with nine players on their roster earning a batting average above .300. The team is led by junior Taylor Minnick, who owns a batting average of .359, 1.043 on-base % and 36 RBI.
  • Brianna Copeland has a 12-7 record in the circle for the Hoosiers. She has earned an ERA of 2.48 and held her opponents to a batting average of .219. Out of the 351 batters Copeland has faced, she has struck out 103, walked 48 and allowed 77 hits. At the plate, the junior has earned a slugging % of .559 and a team-high of 39 hits.

SCOUTING THE IOWA HAWKEYES

  • The Hawkeyes enter the week with a 16-12, 4-2 Big Ten record, and have won both Big Ten series so far with wins vs. Wisconsin and Michigan State.
  • Sophomore pitcher Jalen Adams was named Big Ten Co-Pitcher of the Week on Monday after tossing two complete game shutout victories vs. the Spartans, including a no-hitter last Friday. Adams has picked up nine wins for a 9-6 record, having pitched 60% of the team's innings played.
  • Like the Boilermakers, the Hawkeyes own a team batting avg. of.268 and a .967 fielding %.
  • Three Hawkeyes are hitting above .300, with the effort led by Rylie Moss' .376 batting avg. and 32 hits.
