WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue women's tennis team claimed a dominant win at home against the Butler Bulldogs, finishing 4-1.
In doubles play, Kennedy Gibbs/Ashlie Wilson commanded their battle at No. 2 against Delaney Schurhamer/Schildcrout, defeating the Bulldogs 6-2. After trailing 5-3 behind Butler's Natalie Boesing/Chase Metcalf, Carmen Gallardo Guevara/Tara Katarina Milic came back and clinched the doubles point for the Boilermakers. The match ended in a tiebreak of 7-6(4).
At No. 4, Tara Katarina Milic wasted no time claiming Purdue's first singles point. The junior defeated the Bulldogs' Norah Balthazor in two straight sets, going 6-2, 6-1. With her first win at No. 1 this campaign, No. 117 Carmen Gallardo Guevara earned the next point. She went 6-3, 6-2 in the battle against Natalie Boesing. In yet another two-set victory, Juana Larranaga took the win against Chase Metcalf at No. 3. Larranaga went 6-4, 6-2. Her win clinched the victory for the Boilermakers.
Both Kennedy Gibbs and Ashlie Wilson were unable to earn a win as the match was clinched before they could finish. At No. 2, Gibbs was leading Delaney Schurhamer 6-4, 3-2. Wilson was entering her third set with Butler's Elle Martin when the match was called. Whether it was a doubles or singles win, every Boilermaker that played in the match took home a win.
