WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue Men's Tennis team suffered a 3-4 loss after a late singles surge by Denver on Sunday.
With a series of new doubles teams, the Boilers found enough rhythm to take the point at No. 1 and 3. After dropping the first match and No. 2, Juan David Velasquez/Soham Purohit kept the point alive with a 6-4 victory. Mujtaba Ali-Khan/Alexander Ekstrand followed suit with a 6-3 win almost immediately to secure the early lead for Purdue.
The Boilers have now won back-to-back doubles points at No. 1 and 3 in which Ali-Khan/Ekstrand each won their first doubles match of the spring.
Soham Purohit pushed Purdue to a 2-0 lead after sweeping his first career match at No. 4. Henrik Villanger tacked on the third point of the match with an impressive 7-5, 6-3 debut at singles No. 6. With Villanger's win, all active players have a win this spring.
With significant changes to the singles lineup, the Boilermakers dropped matches at singles No. 1, 3 and 5. A knotted match left Juan David Velasquez out to secure the win for Purdue, but the freshman was bested by Anish Sriniketh in three.
