Boilers Head to Michigan for ITA Kickoff Weekend

The Purdue women's tennis team will travel to Ann Arbor, Mich. for the ITA Kickoff Weekend. The Boilermakers are set to battle against the University of Arkansas Razorbacks in the first round on Friday, Jan. 26 at 1 p.m.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue women's tennis team will travel to Ann Arbor, Mich. for the ITA Kickoff Weekend. The Boilermakers are set to battle against the University of Arkansas Razorbacks in the first round on Friday, Jan. 26 at 1 p.m.
 
The Michigan Regional of the ITA Kickoff Weekend will consist of the women's tennis teams from the University of Michigan, University of Arkansas, Purdue University and University of Utah. After the Razorbacks, the Boilermakers will either play Michigan or Utah.
 
This weekend will be the first away match for Purdue. At home, the Boilermakers have gone 3-0, beating Ball State, Miami of Ohio, and Xavier. Csilla Fodor, Kennedy Gibbs, Carmen Gallardo Guevara and Tara Katarina Milic all have yet to drop a singles match. Gallardo Guevara remains ranked at No. 113 in singles per ITA. She also has not lost a game at No. 2 in either singles or doubles so far in this campaign.
 
The Razorbacks have one ranked player, sophomore Carolina Gomez Alonso. She is ranked No. 59 in singles after going 19-6 in her rookie season. Last season, Arkansas earned a record of 12-12, tallying a 6-7 in conference play. The Razorbacks have gone 2-0 this spring, defeating Bradley in a doubleheader.
 
The University of Michigan Wolverines are currently the No. 5 women's tennis team according to ITA rankings. Michigan currently has four ranked players in singles and one ranked doubles team. Senior Kari Miller ranks the highest at No. 10 after earning a 6-1 at No. 1 in singles play last season. Miller is also ranked No. 8 in doubles with partner Jaedan Brown. Ranked at No. 39, Junior Julia Fliegner went 15-3 at No. 3 in the 2022-23 season. Following closely behind is the Wolverines' Lily Jones ranked at No. 47. The final ranked singles player for Michigan is Gala Mesochoritou at No. 94. In this current season, the Wolverines are 1-1, falling to No. 5 Oklahoma State and defeating No. 13 Oklahoma.
 
The University of Utah Utes have a record of 3-0 this season, having yet to drop a point. The team has swept Montana State, Utah Tech, and Idaho State. Utah currently has one ranked player, No. 55 Marcela Lopez. The sophomore went 15-5 in singles play in the 2022-23 season. Lopez is one of three returning players this season, making the current roster primarily made up of newcomers. The Utes went 13-11 last season with a conference record of 4-6.

• Utah and Purdue have only battled three times. Purdue leads the series record, claiming all three victories.
• The Utes and the Boilermakers last met on Feb. 2, 2002, when Purdue swept Utah in West Lafayette.
