Boilers Beat Portland 6-1 In First Win

EUGENE, Ore. - Purdue concluded its first road trip of the year with a 6-1 win over Portland on Saturday.

The Boilers were rolling from the start as the team secured its first doubles point of the young season, clinched by Marino Jakic/Juan David Velasquez and Stefan Simeunovic/Soham Purohit. Both pairs earned their first wins with 6-4 decisions in doubles action.

Singles No. 1-5 all put points on the scoreboard. After one week and three matches, Marino Jakic and Stefan Simeunovic have impressed as they sit at a combined 6-0. They're not only beating opponents, but dominating them as neither player has dropped a set through week one. 

Juan David Velasquez also came through the road trip with a pair of wins. The freshman battled from a set down to defeat Maxim Groysman 11-9 in the tiebreak. 

Aleksa Krivokapic and Alexander Ekstrand earned their first wins of the spring. Krivokapic came up with a three set win after dropping his first two matches to ranked opponents. Ekstrand saw his first reps as a Boilermaker this past weekend, winning his match against Portland's, Nikolas Tvedt, in straight sets.
