LAST TIME OUT
Despite 42 points from its freshman class, Purdue could not complete a fourth quarter rally in an 80-67 loss in State College. Rashunda Jones provided a spark all night off the bench with 23 points, the most by a Purdue freshman since 2016-17. Caitlyn Harper and Mary Ashley Stevenson both finished with 13 points and fell two and three rebounds short of a double-double, respectively. The Boilermakers did a lot of their work at the line, going 23-of-27.
NOTES
• Purdue leads the all-time series with Indiana 55-40.
• Since its introduction in 1993-94, Purdue leads the Barn Burner Trophy series 18-12.
• The Boilermakers are 8-1 at Mackey Arena this season. Purdue has outscored opponents by 17 points at home, while shooting 47.2% and dishing out 18.9 assists per game. After a sellout against Iowa, Purdue's 5,942 fans per game is 13th in the nation.
• Following 42 points at Penn State, Purdue's freshman class is now averaging 22.3 points per game and 21.8 per league outing, the highest mark by a Big Ten freshman class this year.
• Mary Ashley Stevenson enters Sunday ranked second among Big Ten freshmen in rebounding (5.6) and fourth in scoring (9.3). The New York City native is one of 13 freshmen from a power conference and one of two from the Big Ten averaging over nine points and five rebounds per game. That list drops to eight nationally when factoring in her one assist per game.
• Rashunda Jones sprang for a career-high 23 points on the road at Penn State. It was Jones' third 20-point outing this season, most by a Boilermaker rookie since Dominique Oden in 2016-17. The South Bend native is third in Big Ten freshman scoring at 9.5 points per game.
• Averaging 5.6 assists and 6.9 assists per game, Jeanae Terry and Iowa's Caitlin Clark are the only two players to rank in the top 10 of the Big Ten in rebounds and assists. Terry is one of eight players from a major conference averaging over five points, rebounds and assists this year.
• Purdue has a trio of players closing in on the 1,000-point club. Jeanae Terry is 57 points shy of the mark for her career, while Madison Layden is 99 points away. Already a career 1,700-point scorer, Abbey Ellis needs 71 points to reach 1,000 at Purdue.
• The Boilermakers are shooting 78.1% from the line to rank 18th in the country and third in the Big Ten. Abbey Ellis sits fifth in the league with an 84.7% clip. Her career 87.4% mark at Purdue is second in program history to Courtney Moses' 90.6% (290-320).
• Sunday will see the last two Illinois Miss Basketball winners square off. Purdue's freshman Sophie Swanson took home the honor in 2022 as a junior, before Indiana freshman Lenée Beaumont won in 2023.
• Mary Ashley Stevenson needs two points and four rebounds to be the first Purdue freshman to record 160 points and 100 rebounds in a season since 2016-17.
• Purdue's freshman class tallied a combined 42 points against Penn State, its Big Ten-leading second 40-point outing this year.
• Madison Layden leads the Big Ten with a 56% 3-point clip in league games (14-25). She tops the Big Ten in all games at 48.1%.
• Purdue needs one win to reach 500 all-time victories at Mackey Arena.
