WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue's Zach Edey has been named one of 25 players selected to the Wooden Award Midseason Top-25 Watch List, the Los Angeles Athletic Club announced Wednesday evening.
Edey is one of two Big Ten players on the list, joined by Michigan State's Tyson Walker on the midseason chart.
The 7-foot, 4-inch center is attempting to become just the second back-to-back winner of the award, joining Virginia's Ralph Sampson (1982, 1983). Purdue's Glenn Robinson won the award in 1994.
Edey is off to another sensational season in 2023-24, ranking in the top 20 nationally in points (21.8 PPG), rebounds (10.4 RPG), blocks (2.25 BPG) and field goal percentage (.632). He is the only player in America averaging at least 20 points, 10 rebounds and two blocked shots per game. Edey owns seven 20-10 games this season, ranking first among high-major players and his 26 career 20-10 games are the most nationally among active players.
Edey has scored in double-figures in every game this season, including 35-point performances against Northwestern and Alabama. Edey is currently riding a 66-game streak of scoring in double figures and recently became the second player in school history with 1,000 career rebounds (Joe Barry Carroll), needing just 135 rebounds and 441 points to become the school's career-leading scorer and rebounder.
In Big Ten play only, Edey is averaging 21.6 points, 12.0 rebounds, 2.2 blocks and 2.0 assists, shooting a red-hot 69.1 percent from the field. At his current pace, he would be one of only two players in the last 15 years to average 20, 10, 2 and 2 in conference play.
Edey and the No. 1-ranked Boilermakers host Penn State at Mackey Arena on Saturday, tipping off at 2:15 p.m. ET.
