WEST LAFAYETTE - Purdue University Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Mike Bobinski has announced the addition of Carla Gilson to the Boilermakers' staff as Senior Associate Athletics Director for Sports Performance and Wellness. Gilson served in a variety of roles at Georgia Tech since 1997, most recently as Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine. Bobinski additionally elevated longtime Purdue staff member Jessica Lipsett to the role of Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine.

Gilson spent the past five seasons directing Georgia Tech's sports medicine area. She came to Atlanta at the beginning of the 1997-98 academic year as an assistant athletic trainer. She was promoted to associate athletic trainer in 2008, a role she held until she was promoted to director of sports medicine in 2018. During her quarter-century working for the Yellow Jackets, she served as an athletic trainer for the Yellow Jackets' women's basketball, football, softball, tennis, track and field, volleyball and spirit teams.

Gilson co-founded Georgia Tech's "Life Now, Life Later" mentor program for female African-American student-athletes and served on the athletics department's equity and compliance committee and was a member of the Yellow Jackets' Fellowship of Christian Athletes mentorship team. Additionally, she served as a panelist for Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's Women in Leadership workshop and was a featured presenter at the National Athletic Trainers Association's Ethnic Diversity Advisory Committee meeting.

Prior to her arrival at Georgia Tech, Gilson served as a graduate assistant at East Tennessee State from 1995-97, where she was the primary athletic trainer for ETSU's men's and women's track and field teams and earned a master's degree in health and physical education/fitness leadership. She received a bachelor's degree in management from Tulane in 1993.

In her new role, Lipsett will provide day-to-day leadership and coordination for Purdue's athletic trainers, physicians and other sports medicine professionals.

Lipsett has been at Purdue since 2003, with the primary responsibility of serving as the athletic trainer for Purdue Women's Basketball. She has also worked with the football program and track and field, has taught classes and worked as a physical therapist in the Purdue University Health Services Center.

A native of Port Byron, Illinois, Lipsett received her bachelor's degree from Illinois in 2000, then earned a master's and a doctorate in physical therapy from Northwestern in 2002. While working to complete her graduate degrees, Lipsett received clinical experience at Purdue. Lipsett returned to West Lafayette from the Methodist Sports Medicine Clinic in Indianapolis, where she specialized in knee rehabilitation.
