Career Fall Continues For Multiple Boilers

 

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. - The Purdue Boilermakers produced four singles wins on day one of the Bonita Bay Classic.

This fall's usual suspects were on full display today as the Boilers kicked off their final outing of 2023. Csilla Fodor, Carmen Gallardo Guevara, Kennedy Gibbs and Juana Larranaga all notched another tally mark in the win column.

Guevara was the only Boilermaker to down her opponent in straight sets. The 6-3, 6-3 win was her 10th of the fall. She is now just one win away from her career-best 11 fall wins. 

Fodor was one of three Boilers to win a super tiebreak but she was the only one to win her first set. The fifth-year senior took an early lead in the first with a 6-4 decision, but quickly allowed the tie 6-3 in the second set. With the match on the line, her experience kicked in and catapulted her to a 10-5 performance in the tiebreak to secure the win.

Gibbs and Larranaga had to fight for their victories as they both dropped to an early deficit. Gibbs dominated 6-2, 10-5 on her way to her ninth win of the fall. Larranaga echoed her teammate's determination with a 6-3, 10-7 result to pull out her matching ninth win of the fall. Friday's victory ties her career fall win total and with two days left in the tournament, the Bonita Bay Classic could easily cap off her best fall as a Boilermaker.

The Boilermakers are back in action tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 4 against host school Florida Gulf Coast at 4:30 p.m. EST.
