SANTIAGO, Chile – Purdue divers Jordan Rzepka and Maycey Vieta both accounted for top-five finishes in their debuts at the Pan American Games,
Competed for Puerto Rico in the individual 10-meter event, Vieta climbed from eighth place in the preliminary to fifth in the final. She did it via a 34.2-point improvement on her list score from the prelim (275.50) to the final (309.70). After she missed her first dive of the competition in Friday morning's prelim, Vieta enjoyed a score of 60-plus on seven of her final nine dives in the two-day competition.
Rzepka teamed with the University of Miami's Max Flory to place fourth in the finals-only 10-meter synchro competition. Representing USA Diving, they posted a list score of 360.96 in their first international competition together. They earned list-high scores of 74 in both rounds 4 and 6.
"There were some pieces that were there and some that weren't. I think our synchro went better than expected, and I'm excited to move forward," Rzepka said.
Rzepka competes again Wednesday in the men's individual 10-meter event.
